How to make a receipt in Australia
A receipt is proof that a customer has paid. Where an invoice says "please pay", a receipt says "payment received". This free receipt generator creates a clean, professional receipt you can download as a PDF — no signup.
What a receipt should show
- Your business name and ABN
- The date payment was received
- What was paid for (or the invoice number it relates to)
- The amount paid and the payment method
- Any GST included, if you're registered
Need to bill first? Use the invoice generator. Not sure which document to send? See invoice vs quote vs receipt.
Invoice vs receipt
An invoice is issued before payment and requests money; a receipt is issued after payment and confirms it. You're generally required to provide proof of purchase for sales over $75 (excluding GST) if a customer asks — a receipt is the cleanest way to do it.
